Cooking for the Guatemalan Dream

DSCF4940

The Cooking for the Guatemalan Dream culinary program was created in 2015 to train youth between the ages of sixteen and twenty in the skills necessary to become a chef. The program seeks to create an opportunity for youth to develop professionally, stay in Guatemala, find a job, and to eventually generate social enterprises back home in their communities so more job opportunities can flourish.

The program has recently trained fifteen youth from the nearby indigenous municipalities of Cantel, Zunil, and San Marin Sacatepequez and the nearby indigenous villages of  Santanita and Nueve Alianza. All fifteen of the students were chosen by their communities to be a part of the program. The program not only helped some of the youth, who were contemplating migration, feel like they did not have to migrate to flourish here in Guatemala, it also allowed the majority to find employment. Three of the graduates are currently working at La Red Kat, while other graduates are working at different restaurant establishments.
