Subscribing to “the American dream” has limited the possibilities of our own dreams, a Guatemalan Dream. We dare to dream of a Guatemala with an economy that sees the value in our labor and education that encourages the extent of human wisdom.
DESGUA is a grassroots organization, a network of community groups in Guatemala and around the world working to create economic and educational development with and for migrants and Mayan communities in Guatemala and in the diaspora.
We strive to reintegrate returned migrants into Guatemalan society and to provide an alternative to emigration for those who feel like they have no other choice.
We consider the promotion of cultural identity, organic, fair trade, purchasing locally, and historical memory as integral parts to the sustainable development process.
